What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy which focuses on manipulating the musculoskeletal framework to improve your body's capability to move and heal. Your osteopath will tailor a treatment to your needs and incorporate a whole-body approach to management. We place a large emphasis on hands on therapy and patient education which means your osteopath will explain why you may be experiencing pain, as well as what we can do to decrease it, both short and long term.

When should I see an Osteopath?

Osteopaths can help all musculoskeletal issues including: Sciatica, Lower back pain, Neck pain and stiffness, Headaches/migraines, Shoulder impingements, Hip pain, Rib pain/restrictions, Foot and ankle sprains, Tennis elbow. You don't need to be injured to see an osteopath! We regularly see our patients for maintenance sessions too which will give you a full body assessment and treatment.

Your first consultation

Your osteopath will start by taking a full case history of your presenting complaint to formulate a working diagnosis. This will include a medical and systemic history in order to tailor a treatment to your whole body and ensure your management plan takes in to account all aspects of your daily life. Following a thorough case history you will be taken through a physical examination focused on range of motion and finding the exact cause of your problem. Once these key areas are identified a full treatment may include: Soft tissue massage therapy, Joint articulation/manipulation, Muscle energy technique, Dry needling, Counter-strain and joint stretching. Your Osteopath will work on a treatment plan that best suits your needs to get back to optimal pain free movement. All of our osteopaths have completed a 5 year double degree at leading Australian universities, and all are registered with AHPRA.
