The pre-season is upon us. So what are you doing to insure your training is safe, efficient and effective? It doesn't make what your goals are as an athlete, or what your sport of choice is, your mindset should always be the same:
Exercise smart, not hard.
This doesn't mean you shouldn't push yourself to reach your goals, but it does mean you should be ensuring that you perform each exercise, sprint and drill safely and properly. The idea of pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion is not only a lie, it is unhealthy and potentially damaging. Striving for pain is more likely to cause you future injury and pain.
When injury arises, it's like one step forward, two steps back. Preventing future injury is one of the most important reasons to practice safe exercise. That being said, we understand that accidents happen. However, when they do, do you exercise and treat in a way that prevents re-injury?
This includes, but is not restricted to engaging in low-impact exercise and implementing RICER.
For those who don't know, RICER is:
Refer to a medical professional.
Remembering these actions can rapidly increase your chances of a speedy recovery if injury does occur, as well as prevent further harm being caused.
